The Mission of the Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council is to enhance and improve the ecological, cultural, and economic characteristics of the area through projects and programs that promote the management, protection, and utilization of the area's resources.
The Vision of the Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation and Development Council is to become a recognized leader and advocate of natural resource and community sustainability in northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council covers a ten county - 5,527 square mile region in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Council area includes the counties of Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, and Wayne. The organization is led by stakeholders within these communities overseen by a Board of Directors that provide insight and guidance on projects, programs, and events based on an Area Plan. The Board consists of county representatives and members-at-large interested in serving their local communities. The Council is a nonprofit IRS 501c3 organization.
The Pocono Northeast RC&D Council provides various types of assistance such as watershed management, reclaiming abandoned mine land, forest management, land conservation, educational camps for students, and many other activities for a diverse representation of projects and programs. The assistance provided depends upon the needs and resources of the local group or organization that has requested the assistance. Some of the services available through the RC&D Council include: project planning, oversight, and implementation, training, workshops, capacity building, facilitation, organizational development, administrative assistance, grant planning, and technical guidance and expertise. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides support for the RC&D Council through a Coordinator position, to assist them with accomplishing the goals and objectives set forth in their Area Plan.
